-Increase “inc. 1 st in next st”; knit the stitch as usual, but don’t slip it off the needle. Now knit in the back of the same stitch

-Underarm, pick up 2 sts each sides (13-11-13) = 37 sts
-Keep a 4" tail, start at armpit right facing you, K2Tog through the back loop, K2Tog, Knit until the last 4 sts, K2Tog, K2Tog through the back loop = 33 sts
-Stockinette (all knit) for 14 more rounds.
-K9, K2tog, around = 30 sts
-K2tog around = 15 sts
-P1 between, P1, around = 30 sts (Eyelet row)
-K4, K2tog, around = 25 sts
-knit 1 round
-knit 1 round, P 1 round, 2 times
-knit 1 round
-cast off in purl
2nd Sleeve 
-Work as first sleeve
FINISHING SLEEP SACK






Sleeves;  Sew a couple of stitches underarm with tail, weave all ends.
*Optional;  before sewing the bottom you can single crochet sides and neck if you wish*
Sleeping bottom; Fold bottom edge in half, right sides together, and put a marker to the center stitch. Keeping right sides together lay your work flat and fold front edges over the marker, the button HOLES band in the middle.  Pin in place.  Sew stitches bottom, catching all three layers in middle. Turn on right side and sew edge (for +- 1”) in front to the 6th button hole.
Sew buttons.
***Optional, edge with crochet around.
HAT
-Cast on loosely 54 sts (18-18-18)
-Ribs; knit 2 sts, purl 1 st for 7 rounds.
-Knit 2 rounds
-*K2tog around*= 27 sts
-*P1 between, P1*= 54 sts (Eyelet row)
-Work in stockinette (all knit) for 18 rounds
Shape crown:
K7, K2tog around = 48 sts
K6, k2tog around  = 42 sts
K5, k2tog around  = 36 sts
K4, k2tog around  = 30 sts
K3, k2tog around  = 24 sts
K2, k2tog around  = 18 sts
K1, k2tog around  = 12 sts
K2tog around = 6 sts
Cut yarn leaving a tail (4 inches) and thread tail through the remaining stitches, one at a time, and take them off the knitting needle.
Pull tail tight by the inside of the work, turn work on wrong side.  Secure tails by making a knot with the darning needle.  Weave in ends.             05/13/14

MATERIAL:
-1oz 100% acrylic yarn, 3 ply
(Bernat Softee Baby, 1 ball makes 5 hats)
-Strait needles size #8
-1 darning needle
Cast on: 
(X Small 40) (Small 44) (Medium 48) stitches
Knit for:
(X Small 6.5) (Small 7) (Medium 7.5) inches
Decreasing: (2 rows)
1st row; knit 2 stitches together 
You will have on your needle;
-20 stitches for a X Small hat
-22 stitches for a Small hat
-24 stitches for a Medium hat
2nd row; knit 2 stitches together
You will have on your needle;
-10 stitches for a X Small hat
-11 stitches for a Small hat
-12 stitches for a Medium hat
Finishing:
Cut yarn leaving a long tail (20 inches) and using the darning needle thread tail through the remaining (10, 11 or 12) stitches, one at a time, and take them off the knitting needle.

Turn Hat on wrong side,
Pull tail tight and secure (make a knot).

X Large Preemie and Newborn

















Material:
Use Acrylic baby 3 ply yarn / Size #5 double pointed needles /
#10 double pointed needles for Cast on OR Cast on VERY loose
Pattern Stitch explanation:
Rounds 1 and 2: Knit
Round 3: Purl 1 stitch, knit 2 stitches
Repeat Rounds 1 to 3 for Pattern Stitch
HAT XL Preemie or Newborn
With #10 Needles cast on 54 stitches or (60 stitches)
Divide stitches evenly onto 3 needles.
Join, being careful not to twist stitches.
Place marker for beginning of round (or use first stitch tail).
With #5 Needles
Cuff: Work in K1, P1 rib for 1.5 (1.75) inches.
Then work in “Pattern Stitch” until Pattern stitch
measures 4.5 (5) inches
Shape crown:
Next Rnd: *K7 (8) K2 Tog, Repeat from * around – 48 (54) sts.
Rnd 2 : *K6 (7) K2 Tog, Repeat from * around – 42 (48) sts.
Rnd 3 : *K5 (6) K2 Tog, Repeat from * around – 36 (42) sts.
Rnd 4 : *K4 (5) K2 Tog, Repeat from * around – 30 (36) sts.
Continue to decrease in this manner until there are 6 stitches left.
Divide stitches evenly onto 2 needles
Next Round: K 6 stitches around.
Repeat this round until cord measures 2.25 inches.
Leaving 8” tail, thread tail through the 6 sts.
Insert darning needle in center of cord and pull tail.
Finishing:
Knot cord, secure the tail inside the hat. Weave in ends.
Turn up ribbed cuff
Hat should measure when finished and the cuff turn up:
X Large Preemie or 
Small Newborn:     width 4.5”, length 5.5” (5-6 pounds)
Medium Newborn: width 5.0”, length 6.0” (7-8 pounds)
Large Newborn :    width 5.5”, length 6.5”(9-10 pounds)
