Knit with STRAIGHT needles
MATERIAL:
-1oz 100% acrylic yarn, 3 ply
(Bernat Softee Baby, 1 ball makes 5 hats)
Newborn Hats should measure when finished:
Cast on (very loose OR cast on with bigger size needles)
-Strait needles size #5 US,
-1 darning needle
Newborn Hats should measure when finished:
Small (S): width 4.5”, length 5.5” (5-6 pounds baby)
Medium (M): width 5”, length 6.0” (7-8 pounds baby)
Large (L): width 5.5”, length 6.5” (9-10 pounds baby)
Cast on (very loose OR cast on with bigger size needles)
S 52 (M 56, L 60)
Ribs
(knit 1 stitch, purl 1 stitch) for 1.5 (1.75, 1.75) inches
Stockinette stitches
(knit 1 row, purl 1 row) for 5.0 (5.5, 6.0) inches of stockinette stiches
Ending with a purl row.
Shape crown
Shape crown
Next row knit 2 stitches together = 26 (28, 30) stitches
Next row purl 2 stitches together = 13 (14, 15) stitches
Finishing
Finishing
Cut yarn leaving a long tail (24 inches) and using the darning needle thread tail through the remaining 13 (14, 15) stitches, one at a time, and take them off the knitting needle.
Pull tail tight.
Using the long tail, hat on wrong side, seam hat together matching hat ridges. Weave in ends.

Knit with Double Pointed needles
MATERIAL:
-1oz 100% acrylic yarn, 3 ply
(Bernat Softee Baby, 1 ball makes 5 hats)
-Double pointed needles size #5,
-1 darning needle
Newborn Hats should measure when finished:
Small (S): width 4.5”, length 5.5” (5-6 pounds baby)
Medium (M): width 5”, length 6.0” (7-8 pounds baby)
Large (L): width 5.5”, length 6.5” (9-10 pounds baby)
Cast on (very loose OR cast on with bigger size needles):
S 52 (M 56, L 60)
Divide stitches evenly onto 3 needles, join, being careful not to twist stitches.
Place marker for beginning of round (or use 1st stitch tail for marker).
Ribs
(knit 1 stitch, purl 1 stitch) for 1.5 (1.75, 1.75) inches
Stockinette stitches
Knit in round for 5.0 (5.5, 6.0) inches of stockinette stitches
Shape crown
Shape crown
Next row knit 2 stitches together = 26 (28, 30) stitches
Next row knit 2 stitches together = 13 (14, 15) stitches
Finishing

Cut yarn leaving a tail (10 inches) and using the darning needle thread tail through the remaining 13 (14, 15) stitches, one at a time, and take them off the knitting needle.
Pull tail tight by the inside of the hat, turn hat on wrong side
Secure tails (last stitch and first stitch) by making knots with the darning needle. Weave in ends.

First - great pattern thanks for sharing it. Just wondering about shaping the crown. The instructions say knit 2 together - does this mean the whole row knit 2 together and then bind off. I'm pretty new to knitting to just wanted to double check.
Yes, you have to knit 2 stitches together the whole row and for 2 rows.

Yes circular needle can be use but when shaping the crown you will need double pointed needles.
What size in mm I don't no us size I only work in mm
