Hi everyone,

On Monday October 19th, six "SeaTrail Grandmas" met at the Pink Palace. Here are the items we have been working on:
39 angel gowns and 11 protect coddlers were cut,
32 protect coddlers were edged,
we strarted knitting 3 new blankets,
and we received 1 finished knitted blanket.

Amazing work for only 6 of us!!!
Work done since beginning of September 2009:
Items cut:
140 gowns, 4 coddlers, 160 protect coddlers (16"X8" little sheets) and 54 protect sheets (15"X15") and 5 sheets (30"X30").
Items sewn out the cut items:
12 gowns, 4 coddlers, 72 protect coddlers, 37 protect sheets and 5 sheets.
Knitted items received
5 buntings, 7 hats, 2 pair of socks and 4 blankets.

THANK YOU...THANK YOU...THANK YOU...
to all the hard work and time you have donated!

We have a lot more gowns that were previously cut and that need to be sewn! So if you have a little time and would like to help or even learn something new, we would love to have you on board of the "SeaTrail Grandmas" volunteer group (SeaTrail Grandpas are more than welcome too!!!)
If sewing is new to you, don't worry and give it a try! On my first time sewing these gowns, only 1 out of 5 was wearable.
Q & A (feel free to ask me questions concerning the "SeaTrail Grandmas" and the preemie and newborn items we work on and I will post the answers on the blog as more than one person might have the same question!)

Q 1: Which circular needles do you recommend for baby blankets and buntings?

A 1: (Buy at least 29" long)
-Susan Bates (regular) which can be found at Wal-Mart and AC Moore and other similar stores
( Tip: to untwist them you can dip them in hot water for 1 min. or 2)
-Susan Bates Velocity, the thread is a more flexible but they are more expensive
Which can be found at AC Moore. (Use their 40% or 50% coupon when buying them)
-The best: Addi Turbo Circular Knitting Needles
Which you can buy at: Knitting up a Storm, 1415 Old Highway 17, North Myrtle Beach, SC or online at http://www.paradisefibers.net%20%20(for/ (blanket I use size; US 09, 32" long).

We would love to hear your questions and comments!
Have a good week,
Michele Lupien
Here are some photos of some of the work done so far!

These items were delivered to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the New Hanover Medical Center in Wilmington (Spring 2009):
