First Newborn Hat Knit Pattern
(with straight needles)
Free pattern for charitable purposes and personal use only.

MATERIAL:
-1oz 100% acrylic yarn, 3 ply
(Bernat Softee Baby, 1 ball makes 5 hats)
-Strait needles size #8
-1 darning needle
Cast on: 
(X Small 40) (Small 44) (Medium 48) stitches
Knit for:
(X Small 6.5) (Small 7) (Medium 7.5) inches
Decreasing: (2 rows)
1st row; knit 2 stitches together 
You will have on your needle;
-20 stitches for a X Small hat
-22 stitches for a Small hat
-24 stitches for a Medium hat
2nd row; knit 2 stitches together
You will have on your needle;
-10 stitches for a X Small hat
-11 stitches for a Small hat
-12 stitches for a Medium hat
Finishing:
Cut yarn leaving a long tail (20 inches) and using the darning needle thread tail through the remaining (10, 11 or 12) stitches, one at a time, and take them off the knitting needle.

Turn Hat on wrong side,
Pull tail tight and secure (make a knot).
Using the long tail seam hat together matching hat ridges.  Invisible Mattress Stitch on Garter Stitch seams. - YouTube
Weave in ends.

  2. i'm confused about the whole,

    (Next row knit 2 stitches together = (20-22-24) stitches

    Next row knit 2 stitches together = (10-11-12) stitches

    Cut yarn leaving a long tail (20 inches) and using the darning needle thread tail through the remaining (10, 11 or 12) stitches, one at a time, and take them off the knitting needle)

    is it possible to do a video? as i've looked on youtube etc and haven't found anything to help.

    (20-22-24)Stitches =
    -20 sts for a XSmall
    -22 sts for a Small
    -24 sts for a Medium
    I am adding more info directly on the pattern.

  4. I caste on 48 stitches for a medium hat.I'm not sure if I knit till I have 7.5 inches then do I start to decrease?
