Material:
Double pointed needles # 5 and # 10
4 ply RED HEART Soft Yarn Tangerine
3 ply LION BRAN Wool-Ease Sage
Cuff:
With N. #10; 

Cable cast on loosely: 30 (36, 42, 48) sts
Change for smaller needles
With N. #5;

Ribs K1, P1 for: ¾” ( ¾”,1”, 1”)

Hat:
Change for N.#10
Knit 4 sts (5, 6, 7) Purl 1st, around until your work measure 2.75” (3.5”,4”, 4.5”) from beginning.

Decreasing: 

*SSK: slip, slip, knit; Slip one stitch as you knit, slip one stitch as you knit, insert left needle into the front loops of the 2 slipped stitches and knit them together from this position.*
-XSmall:

.SSK, K2TOG, P1 around = 18 sts
.K2, P1 around = 18 sts
.K2tog, P1 = 12 sts
-Small:
.SSK, K1, K2TOG, P1 around = 24 sts
.K3, P1 around = 24 sts
.SSK, K2TOG around = 12 sts-Medium:

.SSK, K2, K2TOG, P1 around = 30 sts
.K4, P1 around = 30 sts
.SSK, K2TOG, P1 around = 18 sts
.K2, P1 around = 18 sts
.K2TOG, P1 around = 12 sts
-Large:
.SSK, K3, K2TOG, P1 around = 36 sts
.K5, P1 around = 36 sts
.SSK, K1, K2TOG, P1 around = 24 sts
.K3, P1 around = 24 sts
.SSK, K2TOG, around = 12 sts
All sizes; you have now 12 sts

Change for smaller needles
With N. #5; Knit 1 (1, 2, 2) rounds
Stem
Using sage color
Knit 1 (1, 2, 3) rounds
Knit 2TOG around = 6 sts
Knit 2 (2, 2, 3) rounds
Knit 2TOG around = 3 sts *Tip: knit the 3 sts on 1 needles* for be ready to knit a “I cord”

I cord
Knit 4 rows

5^th row, Knit the 3 sts together = 1 stitch

Finishing

Break yarn at 4” and pull yarn trough that stitch.
With a tapestry needle pull yarn in “I cord” middle.
