Free Newborn Sweater and Hat
Moss Stitch Knit Pattern
Material
-5oz -100% acrylic soft baby yarn US #3 Light
-1 darning needle
-1 medium crochet hook
-1 button
-circular needles size US #6 or #7 (sweater)
-strait or double pointed needles size US #5 (hat)

Pattern stitch
Row 1: K1 *P1 K1, repeat from*
Row 2 & 3: P1 *K1 P1, repeat from*
Row 4: K1 *P1 K1, repeat from*

SWEATER         
Using circular needles size #6 or #7
Back
Starting at lower edge of back, cast on 47 sts.
Work in pattern for 6.5”
Sleeves
At beginning of next two rows, cast on 25 sts.
Work in pattern until sleeve measures 3”.
Shape Neck
Work 38 sts, cast off 21 sts,work last 38 sts.
Work 38 sts, join another ball and work 38 sts.
Work both sides at once for 6 rows total.
At each neck edge cast on 13 sts.
Work even until sleeve is 3” more.
At each arm edge, bind off 25 sts.
Front
Continue each side for 6.5”.
Bind off.
Finishing
Around the neck:  Single crochet 1 round, Double crochet another round
Sew button; on left side for girl or on right side for boy.
Sew side and sleeve seams.
HAT
Hat should measure when finished: width 4.5”, length 5.5”
Using straight or double pointed needles size #5
Hat cuff
Cast on 52 sts(very loose)
Ribs
knit 1 stitch, purl 1 stitch for 1.25”
Hat
Work in “pattern stitch” for 4.25”
Decrease
Next row knit 2 stitches together = 26 stitches
Next row knit 2 stitches together = 13 stitches
Finishing
Cut yarn leaving a long tail (24 inches) and using the darning needle thread tail through the remaining 13 stitches, one at a time, and take them off the knitting needle.
Pull tail tight. Secure with knot.
Using the long tail, hat on wrong side, seam hat together matching hat ridges. Weave in ends.
TURN UP RIBBED CUFF
Make and sew a pompom

Is that size 6 or 7 US or mm size needles?
