MATERIAL
Crochet hook I US size
Crochet hook G US size (optional)
Removable marker
Darning needle
INSTRUCTION:
Hat starts at cuff
RIBBING:
Work in Back Loop Only (BLO)
Chain 8 (Keeping 8” long tail for sewing together the cuff two sides when hat is finished)
Row 1: sc (BLO) in 2nd ch from hook and sc (BLO) in next 6 chains. Turn
Row 2: ch 1, sc (BLO) in next 7 chains. Turn
Row 3 to 49: repeat Row 2
HAT: (Spiral crochet)
1st Round: Starting on the ribbing edge, (with optional smaller hook) working through 2 yarns, 72 sc along the ribbing (1 before the rib, 1 on the rib, 1 after the rib). DO NOT TURN
2nd Round: With Crochet hook I US size (Joining row) In the Back Loop of the 1st sc of the 1st Round, 1 sc (this will JOIN the cuff ), and 1 sc in the 71 sc of 1st Round
3rd Round: In BLO, 1sc in each of the sc of the previous round
4th to 15th Round: Repeat 3rd Round.
DECREASE
Decrease: 2sc tog (sc 2sts together; Insert hook in next st and draw up a loop, twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook – 1 st decreased.)
Place Marker in the back middle of the hat (overlooked the beginning) and move marker up each round.
1st Round: *10 sc, sc 2 tog* repeat around = 66 ch
2nd Round: * 9 sc, sc 2 tog* repeat around = 60 ch
3rd Round: * 8 sc, sc 2 tog* repeat around = 54 ch
4th Round: * 7 sc, sc 2 tog* repeat around = 48 ch
5th Round: * 6 sc, sc 2 tog* repeat around = 42 ch
6th Round: * 5 sc, sc 2 tog* repeat around = 36 ch
7th Round: * 4 sc, sc 2 tog* repeat around = 30 ch
8th Round: * 3 sc, sc 2 tog* repeat around = 24 ch
9th Round: * 2 sc, sc 2 tog* repeat around = 18 ch
10thRound: * 1 sc, sc 2 tog* repeat around = 12 ch
Cut yarn at 8” and pull yarn one by one through the last 12 chains in the BLO
Pull the tail inside, close ring and secure. Sew cuff seam.
