Newborn Hat Knit Pattern
with 4 ply yarn and Double Pointed Needles

MATERIAL:
-4 Ply 100% acrylic soft yarn
-Double pointed needles size #8
-1 darning needle
HAT
-Cable cast on (very loose OR cast on with bigger size needles) 44 stitches
-Ribs (knit 2 ,Purl 2) for 6 rounds
-*Knit 11 sts, (M1) or increase 1 st in the 11th * around=48 sts
(to make a stitch (M1) by picking up a loop between two stitches and knitting into the back of it.)
Or   (“inc. 1 st in next st”; knit the stitch as usual, but don’t slip it off the needle. Now knit in the back of the same stitch).
-Stockinette stitches: knit for 18 rows
Shape crown
1st row: *Knit 4, K 2 together* around = 40 sts
2nd and alt rows: Knit 1 round
3rd row: *Knit 3, K 2 together* around = 32 sts
5th row: *Knit 2, K 2 together* around = 24 sts
7th row: *Knit 1, K 2 together* around = 16 sts
9th row: *K 2 together* around = 8 sts
Finishing
Cut yarn leaving a 10” end. Draw end through the remaining stitches, one at a time, and take them off the knitting needle.  Pull tail tight and secure. Weave in ends.
